Crisps are rarely just crisps. At FUDI the Swedish potato crisps sit next to American cheese puffs, Japanese rice crackers and Vietnamese prawn crackers you fry yourself. Nearly 400 kinds in all, and most of them you will not find in ordinary supermarkets.

Potato crisps

Estrella, OLW and Lay's cover the classics: salted, barbecue, sour cream, salt and vinegar. The whole range is gathered under potato crisps. Pringles we carry in a wider range than most, with flavours such as Hot Mexican Chili, Kickin Sour, Flamin Cheese and Mystery Flavour that rarely reach Norwegian shelves. The Cheetos crisps in paprika and ketchup are a safe choice when there are children in the house.

Cheese puffs and cheese curls

Herr's from Pennsylvania is the closest you will get to an American snack cupboard. Cheese Curls come in plain cheese, Buffalo Blue, jalapeño, honey and Reaper for those who want it really hot. They come in 113 g and 170 g, and the small bag is a sensible way to test before you buy the large one.

Asian crisps and rice crackers

Nongshim have onion rings and prawn crackers that are ready fried and good straight from the bag. Koikeya make wasabi crisps with a proper kick to the nose, and Sunrise have Japanese rice crackers, wasabi peas and rice mix with seaweed and nuts. See also Nongshim and Japanese items.

Prawn crackers you fry yourself

Sa Giang from Vietnam are sold as hard, dry discs. They go into hot oil for a few seconds and puff up to several times their size. It is a quite different experience from the ready-made bag, and 200 g goes a long way. It is all gathered under prawn crackers and crab crackers.

Corn, popcorn and Indian snacks

Cheesy corn chips from El Taco Truck, roasted salted corn from Sunrise, microwave popcorn from Meray and Indian pani puri and bhujia from Haldiram's. If you are laying a table for a Mexican spread, Mexico and chilli sauces belong with it.

Questions and answers

What is the difference between bagged prawn crackers and prawn crackers you fry yourself?
The ready-fried ones are crisp straight away, but lose a little aroma in storage. The dry discs fry in under a minute and come out lighter and fuller in flavour. The cost per serving is lower too.

Which crisps are gluten-free?
Plain potato crisps and prawn crackers are usually gluten-free, but seasonings and cheese puffs can contain wheat. Always check the ingredient list on the individual item.

How hot are Herr's Reaper Curls?
Clearly the hottest in our range, made with Carolina Reaper. The jalapeño and Buffalo Blue versions are noticeably milder and suit most people.
