Ukrainian beer

Ukrainian beer at FUDI means two breweries: Chernigivske from Chernihiv in the north, and Opillia from Ternopil in the west. Both brew in the pale lager style that dominates Ukrainian beer culture, and everything we carry comes in half-litre format.

Age limit

Beer above 2.5 per cent alcohol by volume is not sold to anyone under 18. Proof of age may be requested at purchase and on collection.

The brands

Chernigivske is among the best-known beer brands in Ukraine and takes its name from the city of Chernihiv. Here it is a pale lager in a half-litre can.

Opillia comes from Ternopil in western Ukraine and has the widest range on this page: Opillia 1851 in both can and bottle, Opillia Lager in a can, Opillia Viennese in the Vienna style and Opillia Khemelevar in a bottle.

What characterises Ukrainian beer?

The main style is pale lager – dry, well carbonated and without much bitterness. The Vienna lager, such as Opillia Viennese, is darker in colour and rounder in flavour because the malt is kilned longer. The half-litre can and bottle are the standard format, as across the rest of Eastern Europe, while Norwegian and Western European beer more often comes in 33 centilitres.

Sales and opening hours

The beer is sold in our stores, not in the online shop. Hours for selling alcohol are set by Norwegian law and by municipal regulations, and vary between municipalities and days of the week.

Alcohol content and ingredients

Alcohol content, ingredients and country of origin are stated on each product page. Beer above 4.7 per cent alcohol by volume cannot be sold in Norwegian grocery retail, and is sold by Vinmonopolet.
