Norwegian Friday tacos are an institution – but have you tasted tacos as they are actually made in Mexico? Small, double corn tortillas with succulent meat, chopped onion, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. No cheese, no sour cream, no lettuce. Just pure flavor.
What sets authentic tacos apart
- Corn tortillas, always two: Small tortillas (10–15 cm) are doubled up so they don't tear – see our corn tortillas.
- Simple filling: Slow-cooked pork (carnitas), seasoned beef (asada), or grilled chicken.
- Fresh topping: Finely chopped onion, fresh cilantro, and lime – nothing more.
- The salsa does the work: A spoonful of good salsa or hot sauce provides acidity and a kick.
Quick recipe: tacos de pollo (4 servings)
- Season 600 g chicken thighs with cumin, oregano, garlic, and chili from the spice shelves, and fry over high heat.
- Heat the corn tortillas in a dry pan until they are fragrant and soft.
- Assemble: two tortillas, meat, onion, cilantro, salsa, lime. Done.
Do you want to make the tortillas yourself?
Mix masa harina with water and a pinch of salt, press flat and cook in a dry pan for one minute per side. Fresh tortillas elevate the taco to a new level.
