Fajitas are Tex-Mex at its most social: sizzling strips of meat with bell peppers and onions, served straight from the pan with warm tortillas and sides that everyone helps themselves to. Perfect for a weeknight dinner – and a fresh alternative to Friday tacos.
Ingredients (4 servings)
- 600 g chicken fillet, flank steak, or mushrooms
- 2 bell peppers in different colors and 1 large onion, sliced
- 8 wheat tortillas
- 2 limes
- Sour cream, guacamole, and salsa for serving
Homemade Fajita Seasoning
Mix 2 tsp paprika, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp garlic powder, ½ tsp oregano, ½ tsp chili powder, and a pinch of salt – all found among our dried spices. Double the dose and store the rest in a jar!
Instructions
- Slice the meat and toss it in the spice mix with a little oil and the juice of one lime. Let marinate for 15 minutes if possible.
- Sear the meat in a blazing hot pan or cast-iron skillet until it has a good crust. Remove it.
- Sauté the bell peppers and onions in the same pan until tender with a slight bite.
- Return the meat to the pan, squeeze the rest of the lime over it, and serve sizzling hot with warm tortillas.
Tips
The secret is high heat – the vegetables should get a little "char" without becoming soft. And always warm the tortillas, a few seconds per side in a dry pan.
